Gwanghanruwon Garden

it is a renowned garden that gained fame as the backdrop for the love story of Chunhyang, a famous Korean literary work. It is a representative garden of the Joseon Dynasty, where the concept of conforming to and resembling nature was expressed. Gwanghanruwon holds the distinction of being designated as Scenic Beauty No. 33. It is one of the four great pavilions of Korea, along with Gyeonghoeru, Chokseokru, and Bubungru. These pavilions are recognized for their architectural significance and cultural value.

Chunhyang Theme Park

Chunhyang Theme Park

Located in Namwon Tourist Area, across the street from Gwanghanruwon, Chunhyang Theme Park is dedicated to the story of Choonhyang and was the filming location for director Lim Kwon-taek's "Chunhyangdyeon" and the 2005 KBS drama "Sassy Girl,Chun-Hyang".

Honbul Literary House

Honbul Literary House

This literary house was built to commemorate Choi Myung-hee's epic novel Honbul. The Honbul Literature Center consists of an exhibition hall and a flower hall. The exhibition hall contains Choi's manuscripts written by hand and dioramas depicting scenes from the novel. The kkotssimgwan Hall is a rest area.

Kim Byung Jong Art Museum

Located within Chunhyang Theme Park in Namwon City, Jeollabuk-do, the Namwon City Kim Byung-jong Art Museum is a public art museum directly operated by Namwon City, and its purpose is to improve the quality of life of citizens through the enjoyment of culture and art, and to promote the characteristics of local art by providing exhibition spaces for artists from the region. It was established in Unbong-eup at the base of Jirisan Mountain to preserve and advance the rich traditional art form of “Gugak.” The center encompasses a Gugak exhibition and experience center, a study room, an outdoor performance hall, a graveyard for gugak musicians, and a shrine. It showcases donated artifacts from instrumental music, formal music, and renowned singers, offering visitors a comprehensive experience of our music, including the captivating genre of pansori.

Silsangsa Temple

Silsangsa Temple

Silsangsa Temple was constructed by Monk Jeunggak in the 3rd year of Heungdeok's reign during the Silla Kingdom (828 CE). During the late Silla period, various Buddhist sects, which emphasized meditation practice, established temples on prominent mountains throughout the country. Shilsangsa Temple was the first Gusan Seonmun temple built in this manner. Unfortunately, the temple and its buildings were burned down during the Jongyujaeran War. 36 structures were re-built during the Sookjong period but was once again destroyed by fire during the Gojong period. Currently, the temple has been restored on a smaller scale. Shilsangsa Temple boasts cultural properties such as Yaksuam and Baekjangam, and its grounds house the national treasure Baekjangam Three-story Stone Pagoda and 11 other treasures, making it a temple with an extensive collection of cultural artifacts.

Bamsagol

Stretching 14 kilometers along the northern slope of Jirisan Mountain, from Banya Peak to Banseon, Bamsagol is renowned as one of the most picturesque valleys within Jirisan National Park. Characterized by rocky cliffs, the valley is adorned with wide boulders capable of accommodating over 100 people. It is adorned with a multitude of small and large waterfalls and pools, creating a serene and captivating atmosphere.

Maninuichong

It serves as a sacred site where the spirits of over 10,000 civilian, government, and military personnel who sacrificed their lives during the Battle of Namwonseong in the Jeongju Rebellion (1597) are enshrined, honoring their memory.

Dongpibjetatjari

Dongpibjetatjari

Located in Hwasuri Vision Village in Unbong-eup, Jeollabuk-do, Dongpibjetatjari is the birthplace of Dongbaepje, one of the two major Pansori, a traditional Korean musical storytelling genre along with Sopyonje. The renowned master singer Song Heung-rok, the pioneer of Dongbaepje was born.

Situated in Unbong, Namwon City, the Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Exhibition Hall was established in 2016 to promote understanding and conservation of the Baekdu Bridge. It functions as an educational center, offering various experiential programs and curated exhibitions. Additionally, it operates promotional booths at prominent events such as the Ecotourism Festival, Greenway Environment Festival, Chunhyang Festival, and Barabong Snow Flower Festival. Notably, the center's experience programs, including the popular "tiger rider," circle movie theater, insect specimen making, and mother-of-pearl crafts, have received positive feedback.

Jirisan Dulle-gil Trail

Jirisan Dulle-gil Trail

It is an extensive long-distance walking trail spanning 300 kilometers. It connects the three provinces surrounding Jirisan, namely Jeollabuk-do, Jeollanam-do, and Gyeongsangnam-do, as well as five municipalities: Namwon, Gurye, Hadong, Sancheong, and Hamyang. The trail encompasses over 80 villages spread across 16 towns and counties, offering a remarkable journey through diverse landscapes.

Jirisan Mountain, centering around its highest peak, Cheonwangbong (1,915 meters), forms an expansive mountain range spanning 100 li (approximately 40 kilometers) from east to west. It is centered around three prominent peaks: Nogodan (1,507m) at the western end, Banya (1,751m) in the central-west, and Cheonwangbong (1,915m) as the main peak. Jirisan boasts 18 peaks surpassing 1,500 meters, over 40 peaks exceeding 1,000 meters, and 15 substantial mountain ridges. This awe-inspiring mountain range is the largest and widest in South Korea. The new address for Jirisan is 228, Jeongryeongchi-ro, Jucheon-myeon, Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do.

Jeongnyeongchi

Jeongnyeongchi is a mountain pass located at an altitude of 1,172 meters within Jirisan National Park, spanning Jucheon-myeon and the inner mountain side of Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do. At the top of the pass, you'll find Jeongryeongchi Rest Area, which serves as an observation deck offering panoramic vistas of Jirisan Mountain. To the east, Barae Peak and Bamsagol Valley come into view, while the west presents the striking scenery of Cheonwang Peak, Seoseokpyeongjeon Banya Peak, and the city of Namwon. From this vantage point, one can capture a comprehensive view of Jirisan's primary ridge.

Barabong stretches across a 4-kilometer area from the peak at 1,123 meters to the lower west side of Barabong. The highest concentration of azaleas can be found approximately 1.5 kilometers from Palangchi. Hikers climbs to enjoy in the beauty of the azaleas following the Livestock Research Center trail.

Located at the middle of Guryong Valley, Guryong Fall is formed within Wonwon Stream, originating from Manbokdae (1,438 meters) on the western side of Jirisan Mountain and flowing into Jucheon-myeon in Namwon City. It is also referred to as Woncheon Waterfall due to its position upstream of Woncheon Stream.

Yukmojeong is a relic associated with the Wondong village code, while Yongho Seowon represents the dedication of Yulim masters who belonged to the Wondong village code. The Grave of Chunhyang was constructed by Namwon City.

Dalgung Valley

Dalgung Valley resides in Mansucheon, Deokdong-gil, Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do. It is the site where King Hyo of Mahan sought refuge from Jinhan and formed an alliance with King Onjo's Baekje forces during the Samhan period in 350 BC. The remnants of Pirando Castle, the palace built by King Hyo, can still be found just below the parking lot of Dalseong Village.

It serves as a comprehensive destination encompassing the essence of Namwon. Located in the Eohyeon-dong area of Namwon City, this complex, created by the Korea Tourism Organization, features notable attractions such as the Chunhyang Theme Park, Chunhyang Culture and Arts Center, the National Folk Gugak Center, Namwon Folk Museum, and other cultural facilities associated with the Chunhyang Exhibition. The nearby also offers a multitude of attractions, including Gwanghanru, Seonwon Temple, Gyoryongsanseong Fortress, Honbul Literature Center, and Baekjangam.

Heungbugol Natural Recreational Forest

Heungbugol Natural Recreational Forest

It is situated 2 kilometers away from Inwol-myeon, Namwon-si. It is a designated forest area created to promote health, recreation, and relaxation. This recreational forest makes the most of its natural ecological terrain and provides a tranquil environment. At the base of the mountain, there is a cluster of approximately 55-year-old pine trees, perfect for forest bathing, and the scenery is breathtaking. From the summit of Deokdusan, visitors can hike along the ridge for about 30 minutes to reach Barae Peak (1,167m), known for its stunning azaleas.

Yocheon Ecological Wetland Park

Yocheon Ecological Wetland Park

Yocheon Ecological Wetland Park is located on the grounds of the former Jungdong-ri Landfill Site in Jusang-myeon. It spans an area of 150,000 square meters and operates as a waterfront space open throughout the year. The park features ecological trails, resting areas for visitors, observation decks, a birch forest, a Mugunghwa Garden, a mugwort forest, a baseball field, and a multipurpose ball field. The ecological wetland park serves as an environmentally friendly wetland, utilizing discharge water from the sewage treatment plant to prevent flood damage, establish an ecological experience space, and provide a civic living and sports space. It also contributes to the improvement of water quality in the Yocheon River through the use of purifying plants such as water lilies, marmorated irises, and chrysanthemums, enhancing its self-cleaning capabilities. Additionally, a bicycle bridge has been installed at the confluence of the Gwangchi River and the Yocheon River, allowing easy access for cyclists along the Seomjin River to rest at the ecological wetland park.

Located in Unbong-eup Hangjeong Village, Namwon, it is an artificial forest that was created over 200 years ago as a prayer for the well-being of the village. It won the grand prize at the 1st Beautiful Forest Competition and holds significance as a cherished forested area.

Yeowonchi (Yeowonjae)

Yeowonchi (Yeowonjae)

It is a pass situated between Yanggari, Ibaek-myeon, Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do, and Janggyo-ri, Unbong-eup. It offers picturesque views of Namwon's fields and mountain ranges, including the splendid Jirisan Shirubong. The sunset from Yeowonchi, known as Yeowonakjo, is considered one of the eight scenic views of Unbong. It is an ideal location to appreciate the beauty of the Jirisan mountain range.

Baekjangam Samji Park

Baekjangam Samji Park

It is a 'Samji Park' located in the Baekjangam Valley in Madong Village, Daeryeong-ri, within the inner part of the mountain and is also referred to as Byongangswe Park. The park features sculptures depicting Byongangswe and Ongnyeo, as well as a pagoda and a pavilion where visitors can relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Guryong Valley

It is a legendary place where nine dragons once roamed. Flowing through Hogyeong Village and Gogi Village in Jucheon-myeon, Namwon City, it is a unique location in history where dragons are said to have appeared. The Gulong Waterfall in this valley is considered one of the eight scenic spots of Namwon. The valley stretches approximately 4 kilometers in length, and there are trekking trails available for visitors to explore.

Seorim Park

Seorim Park

Seorim Park was originally a forest comprised of zelkova and chestnut trees, managed by the village as a prominent forest. Over time, due to storms and diseases, a few old trees perished, and the forest now consists of five hornbeam trees and 40 zelkova trees that were planted as part of Namwon-gun's Olympic Forest Project for the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Shim Su-kwan Ceramics Exhibition Hall

Shim Su-Kwan is a descendant of Namwon potters who were taken to Japan during the 7 years war, and he has elevated Japanese Satsuma porcelain to a world-class level. As the 15th master, he returned to his homeland in 1998, promoting the international event "Homecoming after 400 years" to showcase Namwon's Satsuma ware. In 2011, he donated 13 works from the 12th to 15th masters to Namwon City, and they are now exhibited at the Shim Su-kwan Ceramics Exhibition Hall.

Gyorongsan National Tourist Area

Gyorongsan National Tourist Area

Established in 1987 with a project cost of 800 million won, the Gyorongsan National Tourist Area occupies 1.92 million square meters of land around Mount Gyorongsan in Sangok-dong, Namwon City. The park centers around Mount Gyorongsan, which rises 518 meters above sea level. It features attractions such as Gyorongsanseong Fortress, Seonguksa Temple, folklore exhibitions, sports facilities, and catering establishments.

Banya Peak

Banya Peak, standing at 1,732 meters, is one of the three main peaks of Jirisan along with Cheonwangbong and Nogodan. It is the highest peak in Western Jirisan, and the sunset view from Banya Peak is renowned as one of the "Ten Views of Jirisan.”

Palangchi

Palangchi

Palangchi is located south of Barae Peak in the western part of Jirisan Mountain. It connects Palang Village in Sandeok-ri, Unbong-eup, Namwon. The section from Barabong to Palangchi is famous for its annual azalea blooms, attracting visitors with their vibrant beauty.

 

Boseol Gwanumsa Temple

Boseol Gwanumsa Temple is a Korean Buddhist temple affiliated with the Taego Order. It is situated on Boseolseodang-gil in Boseol-myeon, Namwon City. The temple was originally established during the late Goryeo Dynasty and underwent reconstruction in 1968. The temple complex encompasses various buildings and artifacts, including Daeungjeon (main hall), Jijangjeon (hall of the Bodhisattva Jijang), Gwanumjeon (hall of the Bodhisattva Gwanseeum), Yaksa Nyorae Buddha, Sanshingak (Three Saints Shrine), Jujeok (Buddhist scriptures repository), Enemy Treasure Palace, and Buddhist manuscripts.

Simwon Valley

Simwon Valley

Simwon Valley is located along Jirisan-ro in Namwon City, Jeollabuk-do. It is one of the three major valleys of Jirisan, alongside Chilsun Valley and Munsu Valley. The valley stretches between Jirisan's Banya Peak (1,732m) and Nogodan Peak (1,507m). The streams in Simwon Valley are formed by the convergence of water from Banya Peak, Nalari Peak (1,432 m), Nogodan, and Jongseokdae (1,356 m), resulting in the formation of over 50 dams and ponds. The surrounding forest is a valuable repository of Korean native plants and has been designated as a tree species reserve and a research forest for Seoul National University.

 

Gori Bong Peak

It is a mountain reaching an elevation of 708.9 meters and is located in Geumjimyon, Jusangmyeon, and Daegangmyeon in Namwon City. The most popular trail to hike Gori Bong starts from Bangchon Village. During the fall season, Gori Bong offers a scenic setting for enjoying hikes amidst the colorful foliage.

Manbokdae

Manbokdae

Manbokdae is a peak standing on the border of Sandong-myeon and Namwon-si in Gurye-gun. It is part of the western region of Jirisan Mountain, reaching a height of 1,433.4 meters. The peak is flanked by Jeongryeongchi to the north and Seongsamjae Pass to the south. The name "Manbokdae" signifies the mountain's abundance of blessings. The terrain of Manbokdae consists of gentle hills, and although it may appear bare from a distance, it is adorned with chrysanthemum flowers, exhibiting a unique autumnal color distinct from the surrounding foliage. Manbokdae is also regarded as one of the ten best spots in Jirisan according to Chinese geomantic principles, symbolizing a place where many people can live harmoniously with blessings.
